Vanadium is a ductile, corrosion resistant metal which is silver grey in color. It is known to oxidize readily and has a plausible structural strength with a low fission neutron cross section. In biology vanadium is known to be an essential component in some enzymes used by nitrogen fixing micro organisms.

Common applications of vanadium include usage in alloys such as stainless steel, crankshafts, gears and surgical instruments. It is also known that glass coated with vanadium dioxide could block infrared radiation. Other common uses include making of fuel cells and storage batteries and usage in the process of cladding titanium in to steel.
