The Element Bromine


Bromine is a very special element because it is the only liquid non metallic element at room temperature and one of the six elements on the periodic table that are liquid at room temperature. In characteristics, it is a dense, mobile, reddish brown liquid that evaporates easily at standard temperature and pressure giving off red vapor with a strong odor as that of chlorine.

Bromine is industrially used in dyes, agrichemicals and pharmaceuticals. It is also used in the production of brominated vegetable oil which is used in many citrus-flavored soft drinks. It also has uses in water purification compounds as well as in high refractive index compounds.
