The Element Tellurium
Tellurium is a semiconductor with the ability to increase the conductivity slightly with exposure to light. This element was discovered by Franz Joseph in gold ores. Tellurium is an extremely rare element on Earth and belongs to the element family called chalcogens. Tellurium can be doped with copper, gold, silver, tin, or other metals. When burned, Tellurium gives a greenish-blue flame in normal air and forms tellurium dioxide as result.
Tellurium is mostly used for alloying with other metals. Tellurium is also used for; ceramics, chalcogenide glasses, blasting caps, optical discs such as rewritable CDs and DVDs, and memory chips for computers.
