Neodymium can never be found as the free element. This element can be found and extracted from ores such as monazite and bastnasite. Neodymium can also be found in Misch metal while being very difficult to separate from other rare earth metals.

Neodymium glass is the most popular and known application of this element. Neodymium glass is produced by the inclusion of Neodymium oxide in the glass melt. In the daylight, Neodymium glass would appear lavender, but appears pale blue under fluorescent light. Neodymium is used for making permanent magnets and they are one of the strangest known.
