The Element Tantalum


Tantalum is classified as a grayish silver, heavy and hard metal. The best feature about tantalum is that it immune to chemical attacks happening at temperatures 150C and below and can only be attacked by hydrofluoric acid, acidic solutions containing the fluoride ion, and free sulphur trioxide. When pure, tantalum is ductile and so can be drawn in to fine wires, which can be used as filaments doe evaporating metals such as aluminium.

Tantalum’s major industrial application would be its usage in the form of a metal powder in the production of electronic components such as capacitors and high power resistors.
