Platinum is one of the most expensive grey-white transitional metals that are heavy, malleable and ductile. It is resistant to corrosion and occurs in some nickel and copper ores along with some native deposits. With its cubic crystal structure, platinum encompasses catalytic properties which are widely used in catalytic converters, incorporated in automobile exhaust systems, as well as tips of spark plugs.

Other industrial uses of platinum include usage as chemotherapeutic agents, in Platinum resistance thermometers and as electrodes for use in electrolysis and electrochemical measurements. Additionally platinum is used in jewelry and in watch making industry to add glamour to products.
